State looks to recoup costs of cleanup

0 Comments | New Haven Register, Feb 26, 2010 | by Susan Misur

MILFORD — Gov. M. Jodi Rell Thursday told state officials to work with the insurer and the company that owns the tractor-trailer that rolled over Wednesday to recoup the state’s costs to clean up the accident site. The truck took out 150 feet of metal guardrail, three light poles, a few signs and several utility poles as it veered off the Exit 40 off-ramp on the northbound side of Interstate 95, state police said.

The crash knocked out power to the area and kept the off-ramp closed the entire day as crews worked to clean up the mess.

The truck driver, Janos Siklosi, 58, of Florida, was upgraded Thursday at Yale-New Haven Hospital from critical to serious condition.

“The state of Connecticut incurred various costs in responding to and cleaning up this accident,” said Rell’s spokesman Adam Liegeot.

The state Department of Environmental Protection was called to clean up the spilled diesel fuel from the truck, and the state Department of Consumer Protection was called to deal with the load of clementine oranges that spilled from the trailer.

A representative of the truck owner, A&M Trucking, of Jefferson, Maine, could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.

The governor also plans to issue a proclamation to honor the firefighters who rescued Miklos despite the danger of downed live wires near the truck he was trapped inside, Liegeot said.

Using the internet

by admin on Jul.28, 2010, under Uncategorized

Using the internet is another option to most people today.

If you do not have internet access, go to your local library where you can review gardening books or access the internet. Talk to experts who can answer most of your questions before you get started. If you are planning on landscaping a small area, you shouldn’t have any problems doing this small project yourself. But for bigger projects you might want to hire professional landscapers to at least draw out the plans and help you decide how to proceed.

Make sure that you have proper drainage for your landscaping project. Improper drainage can lead to water in your basement, water draining under your driveway, or sitting in pools in your yard.

During his attempts

by admin on Jul.28, 2010, under Uncategorized

During his attempts he found that the gristly capsule around the joint was stuck to the bone surface. He had to peel it away like a bandaid or elastoplast strip. Because of this he coined the name Adhesive Capsulitis. The terms frozen shoulder and adhesive capsulitis have been used interchangeably ever since.

Why does a frozen shoulder get stiff?

Inflammation anywhere in the body causes stickiness. The cells that control the inflammation process trigger a reaction in the tissues of the body and tend to cause adjacent bits to stick to each other – not usually on a permanent basis but certainly for some weeks or months.

Now – a capsule of gristle surrounds the shoulder joint and the capsule has a little flap or bag that hangs down into the armpit.

Australian minister rejects nuclear power

Australian minister rejects nuclear power

SYDNEY, April 12 (Xinhua) — Australian Climate Change Minister Penny Wong on Monday rejected nuclear power in favor of renewable energy and storage of emissions from coal.

“The majority of our power still comes from coal,” she said in a public lecture at the Queensland University of Technology.

“If you look at the International Energy Agency’s projections out to 2050, coal is still going to be a significant part of the world’s energy profile, that’s a fact.

“So if you want to do something about climate change you’re going to have to find some technologies to address emissions from coal, otherwise you don’t have a solution to climate change.”

Wong ruled out the nuclear option.

“Nuclear power – we do have a view that that’s not the sensible course when it comes to domestic power generation,” she said.

She outlined the cost of inaction on Queensland’s primary industries and the Great Barrier Reef and listed initiatives introduced by the Australian government.

Wong said there was no choice but to introduce a carbon pollution reduction scheme.

“To reduce carbon pollution you have to put a price on it, to make polluters pay a premium if they want to keep polluting and to create the reward for clean development,” she said

A job-hopper’s guide to 401(k) rollovers

USA TODAY, September, 2005 by Kathy Chu

With the first of the baby boomers closing in on retirement age and many workers changing jobs every two to three years, an increasing number of investors are grappling with whether to leave money in a 401(k) plan, roll it over into an IRA or cash out.

It’s an important question because for many Americans, the largest chunk of their nest eggs will come from company-sponsored retirement plans.

What you decide to do with your 401(k) funds when you leave a job will be based on your financial circumstances, your investment needs and the transaction’s tax consequences. Some issues to consider:

Taking the cash: The temptation when you leave a job may be to use those savings to satisfy short-term spending urges, even if doing so will mar your long-term retirement…

by admin on Jul.28, 2010, under Uncategorized

When she came out of surgery she had to be on oxygen for a longer period of time. She was a smoker for a long time. That caused her lungs to be weak so she couldn?t breathe on her own.

I have known this person for a long time. She liked smoking you couldn?t say anything to her about smoking. She didn?t want to here it. If you said something to her about smoking she would get upset, and tell you I like smoking. I?m not going to quit smoking I enjoy it to much.

She had to be heavily sedated. The doctors told use, because she was a smoker for so long it was best way to keep her from going through the withdraws from cigarette smoking.

But there are maintenance issues and very

by admin on Jul.28, 2010, under Uncategorized

But there are maintenance issues and very important periodic care tasks that must be taken to insure that the wood gazebo stays in perfect shape. The metal gazebo is a heavier construction, that is more for the garden party person, this will guarantee that parties can be held in the gazebo, away from flies and insects, and allow you and your guests to have very elegant dinners outdoors. As with the wood gazebo the metal gazebo will require care and maintenance and is also a very heavy and strong structure.

Vinyl gazebos are the choice of those who do not want to spend too much on a gazebo and still want something that they can use, and then remove from their gardens, something that will take less in maintenance and care and that will provide a nice garden gazebo for certain occasions, this is why the vinyl gazebo is becoming so popular, simply because it is a very light gazebo that you can set up and use all the time or use only when you fell like it, with almost minimal care and maintenance.

The maintenance free vinyl gazebo is made of good and strong materials available on the market, it is sometimes designed to look like a wrought iron gazebo.

by admin on Jul.27, 2010, under Uncategorized

(By the way I’ve never come up with a
good enough reason – unless of course you’re restricted to
space!).

****************************************

Advertising Myth 4: You should use a design agency to create your ads

****************************************

Like all professions there are good and bad design agencies.
However only use a design agency that uses ‘direct response’
advertising principles.

All other design agencies will never get the results you
should expect with your newspaper and magazine advertising.

In almost every case you are better equipped to create
your own advertising rather than using a design agency.

You’ll save thousands of dollars and almost certainly make
more money from the advertising you create.

****************************************

Advertising Myth 5: Your ad must not have too much copy (words) and have lots of white space

****************************************

This is the number one mistake people make with their
newspaper and magazine advertising.

You cannot ever hope to get a high response to your
advertising if you don’t give people a reason (or several
reasons) to respond.
