Don’t try to tame a rough situation using email. You’ll lose.
- Offer a special gift or extra compensation on your product or service. That could be a valuable add on product or a free month’s service.
- Ask the customer what it would take to make them happy. You’ll find that it’s normally something you can accommodate very easily.

The 5 Secrets to Having a Successful Teaching Career
by admin on Jul.31, 2010, under Uncategorized
in Education (submitted 2010-05-11)
Teaching is a profession unlike any other. It is a way of life, a passion and a calling. Teachers do not just teach in a classroom, they are teachers everywhere. Every child is a student and every opportunity is a teachable moment. Unlock the Five Secrets to a Successful Teaching Career below and prepare for a rewarding experience.
Be Resourceful
Teaching requires a great deal of thinking outside the box. Being resourceful means that a teacher is constantly searching to find new ways of teaching students and supplying her classroom with the materials she needs. A resourceful teacher is not afraid to try innovative lessons to reach her students and make learning fun. By being resourceful a teacher keeps her classroom well stocked and her students engaged which are two key components to a long, happy career.
Be Adaptable
Sometimes the hardest, but most effective thing a teacher can do is to be adaptable. It requires a great deal of self-confidence to change direction of a lesson or project mid-stream. When a teacher takes her own plans out of the equation and really looks at what is best for her students, she is adapting to the most important component of her job – the children

To real wine lovers, tasting wine
by admin on Jul.31, 2010, under Uncategorized
To real wine lovers, tasting wine is an experience that is enjoyed in slow, satisfying moments. You need to take note of several things before the wine even touches your lips. First, you have to consider the color of the wine as it is reflected on the glass. Is the liquid clear or does it look cloudy? Wine experts say that the experience is better if the glass is bigger. Swirl the wine inside the glass in order for the wine to air out. Smell the wine and take note of its distinctive flavors. Is it fruity or sweet? Does it have a mild or strong scent? Is it spicy or earthy? You can tell a lot just by smelling the wine. You don’t have to take an extensive course in wine tasting; just go with what you feel.
When it’s time to actually taste the wine, sip a bit of it and taste the liquid on every part of your tongue.

Award win was a boost for business

EXPORTS are a breath of life for many companies in North Wales – giving them access to a breadth and depth of markets not always available at home.
One such firm is Deeside-based Comtek Network Services which was winner of the Welsh Exporter of the Year Award in the Daily Post’s Achievement Wales Business Awards last year.
The electronics, telecommunications and network equipment repair business relocated to Deeside Industrial Park about a dozen years ago. It also has bases in England, Holland and Germany.
Askar Sheibani, chief executive, said: “Turnover this year will be about pounds 11m, up around pounds 1m on last year. Even better, our profitability will have doubled.
“We have increased the workforce at our Deeside headquarters by 25% and now employ 50 people there and we expect to add more jobs over the next 12 months.
“We are concentrating all our expansion on Deeside because the sterling/euro exchange rate makes it easier to employ engineers here rather than on the Continent. That has given us a very strong competitive edge and allowed us to grow even during the recession.”
Mr Sheibani said the company had been able to capitalise on the positive publicity the Achievement Wales win had given the company.
He said the award had marked the company out as a quality business and had helped to motivate existing staff and to attract new recruits.
The Achievement Wales 2010 Business Awards are run by the Daily Post in partnership with executive sponsors HSBC Bank and the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Welsh Assembly Government is sponsoring the award competition’s Welsh Exporter of the Year Award category this year. This category is aimed at businesses that export products or services to outside the British Isles. Judges will be looking for candidates that have generated substantial and sustained increases in export activity relative to the size of the company. They will also be looking for evidence of obstacles that have been overcome and the positive impact the export activity has had on jobs in Wales.
The Welsh Assembly Government said it was pleased to support the Achievement Wales Welsh Exporter of the Year Award.
Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said: “As the world emerges from recession, successful exporting companies will be even more important for economic prosperity.
“Globalisation means our competitors are just as likely to be across the ocean as down the road, so international focus is vital.”
Mr Jones, who is also Minister for the Economy and Transport, added: “The newly published Economic Renewal Programme will encourage innovation and equip Wales with world-beating skills and infrastructure.
“We aim to ensure all businesses have access to Next Generation broadband by 2016, making our country a more attractive place to do business.
“Our approach aims at stimulating overseas trade and ensuring we fully develop the links between domestic and international opportunities.”
Mr Jones congratulated all businesses taking part in this year’s competition and all who help ensure every part of Wales shares fully in economic prosperity.
The Achievement Wales Business Awards are open to firms of all sizes and across all sectors in North and mid Wales.
Other categories include awards for Business Start-up, Small Businesses, Medium Business, Business of the Year, Growth Through Innovation, Tourism, Green Award, Community Award and Business Person of the Year.
The winners’ names will be revealed at a glittering gala dinner and awards ceremony attended by around 400 of the region’s business leaders and guests at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on December 3.
How to enter… BUSINESSES wanting to enter the Achievement Wales 2010 Business Awards can call the Daily Post on 01492 574 472 for a bilingual entry form. Entry forms are also available by e-mailing achievementwales@dailypost.co.uk or by visiting www.dailypost.co.uk/ achievementwales. Closing date for entries is September 29, 2010

Acceptable ranges for children are similar
by admin on Jul.31, 2010, under Uncategorized
Acceptable ranges for children are similar to those for adults, except that infants and younger children need a slightly higher proportion of fat (25 %-40%).
Some of the protein you eat contains all the amino acids needed to build new proteins. This kind is called complete protein. Animal sources of protein tend to be complete. Other protein sources lack one or more amino acids that the body can’t make from scratch or create by modifying another amino acid. Called incomplete proteins, these usually come from fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts.
Vegetarians need to be aware of this. To get all the amino acids needed to make new protein – and thus to keep the body’s systems in good shape – people who don’t eat meat, fish, poultry, eggs, or dairy products should eat a variety of protein-containing foods each day.
What can be said about protein when pairing it with a healthy life style? Make sure you are getting daily share of it, plain and simple.

Smith Middle school teacher grant winner

VANDALIA — Linda Skinner, physical education teacher at Smith Middle School, recently received notice that she is a recipient of a McDonald’s $500 MAC grant.
MAC grants offer financial support to help teachers “Make Activities Count” for their students.
Skinner will use the money to purchase about 15 heart monitors for students to wear during physical education class. The students will then use a chart to determine their target heart rate and the proper zone their hearts should be working in for best results, said Bethany Reiff, public relations coordinator for Vandalia-Butler City Schools.
Different activities will be used that pull in math skills and physical fitness.
Reiff said students will use stop watches, combined with the monitors, to determine how long they are in the proper heart rate zone

The media wisdom
by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized
The media wisdom of the day
always talks in terms of reach and frequency, and these are both important… but
they are not science. They are based in part on the experience of ad agencies and
most of that experience is founded on mediocre brand definitions and forgettable
advertising executions. The goal, if you are being outspent, is to out-reach your
competition with less frequency. This means that you need to ignite the right and
left-brain responses of more people with fewer impressions.
A properly defined brand creates that space and it defines your executions in the
same way that your eye color was defined by an allele on chromosome 19. If your
brand is differentiated from the competitive set by customer precepts ? the core
?life? beliefs that propel your customer to choose ? then the resulting marketing
and advertising, if it is true to the brand, will be by definition ? different and better.
Choose Your Agency
All too often we see brands choose and ad agency because of personality and
reputation.
